Royse City police on lookout after surge in circuit breaker box thefts

The Royse City Police Department responded to five theft reports on Friday called in by home builders.

In each case, police say offenders stole breaker boxes and circuit breakers from unoccupied homes that are under construction.

According to Royse City PD, thefts of this kind have become increasingly common.

As they investigate the thefts, officers have been spending more time patrolling areas where construction is happening.

“We are asking residents living in neighborhoods with new construction to be on the lookout for suspicious activity and to call us if you see anything,” Royse City PD said in a released statement.

The department also noted that in the case of four of the reported burglaries, the houses were left unsecured, and one was entered after someone kicked in the backdoor.

In similar cases across the country, those who have stolen circuit breaker boxes have either sold them as scrap or as intact, working units.
