In 2024, consumption of automatic circuit breakers decreased by -1.5% to 530M units, falling for the second consecutive year after eight years of growth. Overall, the total consumption indicated measured growth from 2013 to 2024: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2024 figures, consumption decreased by -6.1% against 2022 indices. The revenue of the circuit breaker market in China fell modestly to $6.6B in 2024, leveling off at the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). The market value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% from 2013 to 2024; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Circuit breaker consumption peaked at $7.1B in 2022; however, from 2023 to 2024, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2024, the amount of automatic circuit breakers produced in China reached 1.1B units, approximately reflecting 2023 figures. Overall, production enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the production volume increased by 80%. Circuit breaker production peaked at 1.1B units in 2022; afterwards, it flattened through to 2024.

In value terms, circuit breaker production reached $13.4B in 2024 estimated in export price. In general, production posted prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the production volume increased by 50% against the previous year. Circuit breaker production peaked at $13.5B in 2022; however, from 2023 to 2024, production failed to regain momentum.

In 2024, circuit breaker imports into China surged to 61M units, picking up by 118% on 2023 figures. In general, imports enjoyed significant growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, circuit breaker imports rose to $290M in 2024. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 11%. Imports peaked at $414M in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2024, imports failed to regain momentum.

Japan (2.3M units), Germany (1.3M units) and South Korea (1.1M units) were the main suppliers of circuit breaker imports to China, together comprising 17% of total imports. France, Italy, India, the Czech Republic, Mexico, Romania, the United States, Poland and Switzerland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 17%.

From 2013 to 2023, the biggest increases were recorded for Mexico (with a CAGR of +27.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest circuit breaker suppliers to China were Japan ($48M), Germany ($39M) and Italy ($30M), with a combined 42% share of total imports. Switzerland, South Korea, Mexico, the United States, France, the Czech Republic, Romania, Poland and India lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 41%.

Mexico, with a CAGR of +16.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2024, automatic circuit breakers for under 1000 v (76M units) was the main type of automatic circuit breakers supplied to China, with a 99.9% share of total imports. It was followed by electrical apparatus; automatic circuit breakers, for a voltage exceeding 1000 volts but less than 72.5kV (16K units), with less than 0.1% share of total imports.

From 2013 to 2024, the average annual growth rate of the volume of automatic circuit breakers for under 1000 v imports totaled +29.4%. With regard to the other supplied products, the following average annual rates of growth were recorded: electrical apparatus; automatic circuit breakers, for a voltage exceeding 1000 volts but less than 72.5kV (-33.7% per year) and electrical apparatus; automatic circuit breakers, for a voltage of 72.5kV or more (-35.6% per year).

In value terms, automatic circuit breakers for under 1000 v ($223M) constituted the largest type of automatic circuit breakers supplied to China, comprising 75% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by electrical apparatus; automatic circuit breakers, for a voltage exceeding 1000 volts but less than 72.5kV ($59M), with a 20% share of total imports.

From 2013 to 2024, the average annual rate of growth in terms of the value of automatic circuit breakers for under 1000 v imports was relatively modest. With regard to the other supplied products, the following average annual rates of growth were recorded: electrical apparatus; automatic circuit breakers, for a voltage exceeding 1000 volts but less than 72.5kV (-4.7% per year) and electrical apparatus; automatic circuit breakers, for a voltage of 72.5kV or more (-7.1% per year).

The average circuit breaker import price stood at $4.8 per unit in 2024, reducing by -52.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price faced a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 58%. The import price peaked at $61 per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2024, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was electrical apparatus; automatic circuit breakers, for a voltage of 72.5kV or more ($4.9 thousand per unit), while the price for automatic circuit breakers for under 1000 v ($2.9 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2013 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by electrical apparatus; automatic circuit breakers, for a voltage of 72.5kV or more (+44.3%), while the prices for the other products experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2024, the amount of automatic circuit breakers exported from China amounted to 651M units, surging by 8% compared with 2023 figures. Over the period under review, exports showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 394%. The exports peaked in 2024 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, circuit breaker exports reached $1.9B in 2024. In general, exports recorded a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 37%. The exports peaked in 2024 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Russia (90M units), Brazil (61M units) and Turkey (52M units) were the main destinations of circuit breaker exports from China, with a combined 34% share of total exports. Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Pakistan, Malaysia, the UK, Uzbekistan and Singapore lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 20%.

From 2013 to 2023, the biggest increases were recorded for Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +38.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($206M), Turkey ($110M) and the UK ($90M) were the largest markets for circuit breaker exported from China worldwide, together accounting for 23% of total exports. Brazil, Singapore, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Uzbekistan and Pakistan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.

Among the main countries of destination, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +17.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Automatic circuit breakers for under 1000 v (660M units) was the largest type of automatic circuit breakers exported from China, with a 100% share of total exports. It was followed by electrical apparatus; automatic circuit breakers, for a voltage of 72.5kV or more (1.2M units), with a 0.2% share of total exports.

From 2013 to 2024, the average annual rate of growth in terms of the volume of automatic circuit breakers for under 1000 v exports amounted to +23.7%. With regard to the other exported products, the following average annual rates of growth were recorded: electrical apparatus; automatic circuit breakers, for a voltage of 72.5kV or more (-11.2% per year) and electrical apparatus; automatic circuit breakers, for a voltage exceeding 1000 volts but less than 72.5kV (-12.2% per year).

In value terms, automatic circuit breakers for under 1000 v ($1.6B) remains the largest type of automatic circuit breakers exported from China, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by electrical apparatus; automatic circuit breakers, for a voltage of 72.5kV or more ($207M), with a 10% share of total exports.

From 2013 to 2024, the average annual rate of growth in terms of the value of automatic circuit breakers for under 1000 v exports stood at +6.1%. With regard to the other exported products, the following average annual rates of growth were recorded: electrical apparatus; automatic circuit breakers, for a voltage of 72.5kV or more (+12.1% per year) and electrical apparatus; automatic circuit breakers, for a voltage exceeding 1000 volts but less than 72.5kV (+8.0% per year).

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($9.1 per unit), while the average price for exports to Pakistan ($1.3 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (-8.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
