Circuit breaker imports into the United States amounted to 208M units in 2024, growing by 1.9% on the year before. Over the period under review, imports posted a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 316% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 238M units in 2022; however, from 2023 to 2024, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, circuit breaker imports soared to $2.6B in 2024. In general, imports posted prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2024 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Mexico (100M units), the Dominican Republic (58M units) and Italy (9.3M units) were the main suppliers of circuit breaker imports to the United States, with a combined 82% share of total imports.

From 2013 to 2023, the biggest increases were recorded for Mexico (with a CAGR of +24.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest circuit breaker suppliers to the United States were Mexico ($921M), the Dominican Republic ($661M) and Italy ($251M), together accounting for 82% of total imports.

In terms of the main suppliers, Italy, with a CAGR of +16.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2024, automatic circuit breakers for under 1000 v (208M units) was the main type of automatic circuit breakers supplied to the United States, accounting for a 100% share of total imports. It was followed by electrical apparatus; automatic circuit breakers, for a voltage of 72.5kV or more (409K units), with a 0.2% share of total imports.

From 2013 to 2024, the average annual growth rate of the volume of automatic circuit breakers for under 1000 v imports stood at +21.7%. With regard to the other supplied products, the following average annual rates of growth were recorded: electrical apparatus; automatic circuit breakers, for a voltage of 72.5kV or more (-14.9% per year) and electrical apparatus; automatic circuit breakers, for a voltage exceeding 1000 volts but less than 72.5kV (-21.6% per year).

In general, total exports indicated a measured increase from 2013 to 2024: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last eleven years. It was followed by electrical apparatus; automatic circuit breakers, for a voltage exceeding 1000 volts but less than 72.5kV (67K units), with a 0.2% share of total exports.

From 2013 to 2024, the average annual rate of growth in terms of the volume of automatic circuit breakers for under 1000 v exports totaled +7.4%. The export price peaked at $41 per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Dominican Republic ($125 per unit), while the average price for exports to Ecuador ($6.3 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
